Promotion To Leader of Library Service

The end of the academic  year marks the end of the CAS program, “Library Service”; which also means that the leader of the program must resign her position of leader and hand it down to another student to continue organizing Library Service.

In this instance, not one leader, but two leaders of were chosen to lead Library service. These two students include Charity Dowers and myself. I believe our previous leader, Keiko Tamura thought that having a pair of leaders would make the job easier in the long run, which I agree with as well.

As leaders fo Library Service we must pick up where Keiko left off which means for the next year our goals will include:

  • Increase the awareness of one’s own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertake new challenges
  • Plan and initiate activities
  • Work collaboratively with others
  • Show perseverance and commitment in the activities
  • Engage with the issue of global importance
  • Consider the ethical implication of the actions
  • Develop new skills
We also need to update and further develop our Library Service CAS blog due to the formation of the Key Club.

Aluminum Resource Conservation Article (Published)

This post is an announcement for my resource conservation article on aluminum that was included into OSC’s newsletter as well as the recycling website.  I had recently written a brief article that highlighted the patterns of aluminum usage within Battaramulla, Colombo for my Geography class. However, the article was selected to be published within selected school media within our small community to bring awareness to our actions. The article composed of a brief explanation of the current patterns aluminum within areas situated near our school, how we are contributing to the local aluminum levels and finally a small listing of ways to lessen aluminum consumption.

Food and Fun Fair Day 2011

As an OSC annual tradition, the Food and Fun Fair 2011 occurred on March 12th. The activity that our class decided to run was a football shoot out. There were two ways of helping out with the booth, it was either become a goalie and block incoming shots from customers, or to manage the tickets while also supervising the activity.  I was working with two other members (Jakov Simjanoski and David Frith) during my shift. It was not difficult work, but there were more than enough customers to justify our selection of activity. We handed out prizes to contestants that could make at least one goal, out of three possible shots. The sum of the accumulated funds from our activity was sent to Japanese flood relief organizations, after a mutual decision from a grade meeting.
