Sports Day 2011 (Reflection)

Sports Day 2011. I’m absolutely exhausted! Today was probably the most energy I’ve used in awhile! It probably would not have been so bad if the people designated to my team showed up; but instead I was the only senior that was participating in sports events throughout the day. (There were a two other seniors on Red team, but they decided to leave or just socialize.)

In fact, our Red team was so undermanned that we had to combine our Team 1 and Team 2, and yet we still did not have enough. Therefore, the three girls on the Red team were forced to play all four sports, and all three games of said sport. However, even with these set backs our team played with good sportsmanship and continued on with sports day.

When reflecting upon the day, I can say that I covered my goals thoroughly. I did show my increased awareness of my own strengths and areas for growth seen in my performances in each sport. I was better at volley ball than basket ball, because I wasn’t fatigued when we started volley ball. I definitely undertook new challenges, which can be seen when I took on the responsibilities of my teammates that wouldn’t participate. Although sports day was organized by supervisors, I feel that my team and I planned and initiated activities to keep ourselves motivated throughout the day such as warming up together, or making substitution/player changes throughout the day. I don’t believe it’s possible to explain how important it was that we worked collaboratively since we had a limited number of teammates to work with; it was our dependence on each other’s strengths that helped keep us motivated to play.I believe that our of all of the teams at sports day, Red team showed the most perseverance and commitment in our activities while developing new skills, even though we were at the largest disadvantage.

Overall, I feel that Sports Day 2011 was not a bad day to be honest. The day showed me how sportsmanship and determination feel better than simply “winning” a match or scoring a basket. Sure it’s great to win, but I feel that there wouldn’t be much point in winning if you didn’t approach the game with a good attitude.

…And besides, Red team turned out to be the winners. Not because of the Secondary Red team, but because of the Primary students excellent performance.

But that didn’t really change the way I felt, I already felt like a winner. (If it’s not too cliche to say)

Goals for Sports Day 2011 – Grade 12 (Action)

“Sports Day” 2011, to be my second and last sports day at OSC, Colombo. Going into this school-wide activity I feel excited since it will be a good chance to work collaboratively with others. I made sure to sign up for as many of the sports and games I could; which was three games out of four different sports. (Volley Ball, Football, Kickball, and Basket Ball) I hope that tomorrow will be more eventful than last year, considering that only two secondary students (Charity and myself) showed up to represent the Red team. Hopefully, we’ll have more support this time; so we won’t have to play all four sports, and all three games.

When relating my goals for Sports Day 2011 to the IB CAS requirements, I feel that tomorrow may show that I have:

• Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth
• Undertaken new challenges
• Planned and initiated activities
• Worked collaboratively with others
• Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
• Developed new skills

..And of course, I will be experiencing A LOT of ACTION!

Library Service (Orientation – First Session)

The first Library Service CAS was on Thursday the 1st of September. We have a group of about 13 students, composed of students primarily from middle school. (grade 6 – 8 ) However, we also have students from (Grades 9 -12) due to a need for responsiblity and leadership qualties.   As decided before hand in our planned and initiated the activities, Charity was incharge of the middle school children and I was in charge of high school students. We all worked collaboratively together stacking books and I feel that my group is a hard working group, infact on the first day of library service they were able to finish reorganizing an entire shelve section. Based upon our Library Service participant’s reactions to our CAS program, I believe that this year will be productive; as well as fun.

Small list of tasks that we covered:

– Introduced the program to the members of our group.

– We explained the expectations and goals of Library Service.

– We also briefly explained about the “absence” policy that Mrs Reina suggested.

– Reflections and rewards were also mentioned to the students.
